If you are concerned that you may be affected by Coronavirus, please use the online 111 system – 111.nhs.uk/covid-19. NHS 111 are very busy at this time so please only call them if you are not able to use the online services or have been directed to do so by 111 online.
This is an evolving situation, and our plans will move rapidly to respond to changing national directives. Our current plan is:
- On the advice of NHS England and Public Health England, in response to the CORONAVIRUS outbreak, the surgery has made the difficult decision to close its doors for routine appointments in order to protect patients and staff and allow us to continue to provide healthcare for our patients.
- Our reception team is not booking any direct face to face appointments. If you have a medical concern please, preferably, use our website, then go to the Reception and Enquiries section and at the bottom of the screen Ask a Receptionist a question. Please enter your details and give as much information as possible. Alternatively, if you call the surgery you will be required to give the receptionist full details about your condition (N.B. our phone lines are very busy at this time so please be considerate to our team).
- We are managing GP appointments on day to day demand basis, we will not pre-book telephone appointments.
- We have implemented video consultations so that we can see you that way if we need to, as we need to minimise ‘in person’ contact as much as possible
- You will receive a call from the most appropriate clinician who will deal with your condition in one of the following ways:
- Over the phone
- Offer a video consultation, or
- If the clinician cannot resolve your issue using either of the above methods, they may ask you to come to the practice – this will be a rare occurrence.
- Existing pre-booked GP appointments have been cancelled and all patients will have received an SMS text message advising them to contact the surgery if they still require medical attention.
- Nursing appointments will continue for core services, e.g. childhood immunisations, warfarin testing, dressings, etc. You will be screened prior to any appointment, so if you have a new persistent cough or temperature you must not come in to the practice, you must now self-isolate for 14 days.
- Nursing appointments for chronic disease management, e.g. diabetes and asthma, will move to telephone consultations starting in April.
- Avoid coming in to the practice if at all possible – find a way to work with us by using email or by sending us a query through our website.
- We are introducing alternative means of sending and receiving information to minimise the need for you to visit the practice and, therefore put yourself and others at risk. Please use our online services, using our website, as follows:
- Prescription requests (will NOT be taken by phone for safety reasons)
- The following services are all available via the Reception and Enquiries section on the website
- Sick /fit notes – N.B. We will not be providing sick notes if you are self-isolating, please do not ask.
- Test results
- Appointments (N.B. please leave full details and you will get a call from the most appropriate clinician
- Prescriptions will now only be sent directly to a pharmacy, if you haven’t already nominated a pharmacy please let us know where you want your prescription to go to – you will not be able to collect it from the practice.
- We will not be providing letters advising you not to travel, please do not ask – your travel company will advise you on what to do.
- We all need to follow the national guidance, and only follow reputable information – do not spread mis-information.

- Are Wootton Pharmacy doing home deliveries?
The pharmacy are currently NOT doing home deliveries. They are currently looking to employ a driver to do this for them. Therefore, if you are self-isolating and need medicines please arrange for a family member, friend, neighbour or carer to collect your prescription from the pharmacy
- Can the surgery prescribe Paracetemol?
No. We understand that there are shortages of paracetamol. However, please do not ask us to prescribe this as it is classified as an Over the Counter (OTC) medicine and therefore we are unable to prescribe it.
- Can you give me information about Chronic diseases and self-isolation / social distancing?
Please note that this information is quite complex and takes a lot of time to explain. You will appreciate that our phones are very busy at this time and we need to deal with as many calls as possible. Therefore we recommend that you refer to nhs.uk/coronavirus. This is the government’s website and it contains all the latest up-to-date information.
- Can you prescribe me additional medication or can I request me repeat prescription early?
No. We are continuing to prescribe in the usual way for your safety.
- Can you write a ‘Shopping Letter’ so I can go to the supermarket to shop on behalf of my elderly relative during times designated for elderly people?
